Architect Designed, Factory Built, Intrinsically Green
Residential architecture – homes and housing – brings many challenges but none so fundamental as the tension between expressive artform and regulatory function. How can we make a place that fits its surroundings, expresses the occupants’ story and gives joy to the public realm while simultaneously meeting budget, schedule and code? How can the homeowner, the architect and the builder find a common vision? What are the chances?
Actually, it is done more often than generally thought. The hardest part is finding people who will ask for it; insist on it.Most people settle for whatever they can find, shoe-horning their lives into something that meets their short term needs.Too many houses are bought like cars or appliances.Your home is not a vacuum cleaner!
2morrow Studio invites you to think big, long-term and beautiful! And big need not mean McMansion-big.At 2morrow Studio we want to design a house that reflects your biggest ideas, our biggest ideas and the most interesting questions.Long-term means we want to make a home for you but also for those who come afterwards, whether family or others. And beautiful means so many different things that we must discover it together – the homeowner, the architect and the builder.
Custom residential architecture need not be a luxury. With the arrival of sophisticated manufacturers, large portions of a house are now prefabricated on assembly lines free from the vagaries of weather, schedules and labor shortages. Increasingly, quality is improved even as costs recede. Using computers, robotics, advanced software and inventory control, custom homes are now prefabricated with little or no additional cost. The most skilled craftspeople, it turns out, would rather build indoors!
After twenty-five years as a conventional design/build practice, 2morrow Studio has spent the last several years creating a new delivery method based on the marriage of traditional craft with computerized manufacturing. This approach allows us to deliver green, custom homes that are seamlessly integrated into their surroundings at a fraction of traditional costs. Site disturbance is dramatically reduced as building schedules become shorter and more predictable.
Together, these advances allow us to think bigger, longer term and as beautiful as possible – whatever that means for you.
